Radiology Associates Improves Patient Care With Thyroid Nodule Reporting System
Thyroid nodules are extremely common, occurring in as many as 50% of patients by age 60. Their prevalence leads to costly imaging and interventions to evaluate many lesions that ultimately prove benign. Even smaller malignant nodules frequently demonstrate an indolent or nonaggressive behavior, calling into question the need for – and safety of – fine needle biopsy.
ACR TI-RADS demonstrates the capacity to help physicians more accurately decide which thyroid nodules warrant further testing, reduce the anxiety, discomfort and cost of unnecessary supplementary imaging and biopsy, and enhance the accuracy of the tests ultimately performed. We at Radiology Associates are pleased to incorporate this system as part of our overall standard of care.
