X-RAY
GENERAL OVERVIEW ABOUT THE EXAM
X-ray is the oldest and most frequently-used medical imaging tool and is the fastest and easiest way to view and assess fractured, misaligned and injured bones. X-ray images of the skull, spine, joints, and extremities can show even hairline fractures or chips. Bone x-rays are an essential tool in orthopedic surgery, such as spinal repair, joint replacements and fracture reductions.
X-ray images are also used to diagnose and monitor the progression of degenerative diseases such as arthritis as well as advanced bone cancers.

What to Expect
Once you arrive, you may be asked to change into a gown to make imaging easier. You will be asked to remove all metal objects, such as jewelry and eyeglasses. Women should always inform their doctor or the technologist if there is any possibility that they are pregnant.
X-ray imaging is quick, painless and doesn’t require contrast injection, so prep is minimal and imaging takes only minutes. Your radiologist can often assess your x-ray imaging while you wait.
